Islamic finance, done properly

The finance app that knows
what Zakat is.

Most budgeting apps have never heard of the Hijri calendar, and a generic "2.5% of savings" calculator gets the nisab wrong. Yusr tracks your hawl date, calculates against the nisab value you enter, and keeps your halal investments in the same place as everything else.

Yusr is a private preview. No credit card and no App Store. Bank connection and a Premium plan are planned.

How it works

Three things a generic calculator gets wrong

Zakat isn't 2.5% of whatever is in your chequing account today. Yusr handles the parts that actually decide the number.

The date

Your hawl, not January 1st

Zakat is due once a full lunar year has passed over your wealth. The Hijri year is about eleven days shorter than the Gregorian one, so the date moves. Yusr tracks your hawl date and tells you when it's approaching.

The threshold

A nisab value you set and keep current

The nisab is 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver, so the dollar threshold moves with metal prices, and the two give different thresholds. Yusr doesn't fetch prices: you choose gold or silver, look up the current value yourself and enter it in CAD, and Yusr flags it when it hasn't been updated in over 30 days. The value Yusr starts with is a placeholder, not a ruling — replace it with the figure you rely on.

The assets

What counts, and what doesn't

Cash, gold, and investments are zakatable. Your home and everyday belongings aren't. Debts you owe come off the total. Yusr keeps these separate instead of lumping everything into one balance.

Beyond Zakat

Halal investing and Sadaqah, next to your Zakat

Zakat isn't a separate app you open once a year — it depends on the same balances you're already tracking.

Questions

Before you trust it with your Zakat

Is Yusr a religious authority?

No. It's a calculator and a tracker. It applies widely used rulings — 2.5% and a lunar hawl — to a nisab value you choose and enter, but scholars differ on details like whether to use the gold or silver threshold, and how to treat retirement accounts. If a ruling matters to you, ask someone qualified. Yusr shows its working so you can check it.

Does it work for non-Muslims too?

Yes. The Zakat tools are one tab among many — budgeting, net worth, RESP, cashback and grocery tracking all work the same regardless. You can hide the Zakat tab entirely in Settings.
